May 16, 2024

Ibadan, Nigeria — The 2024 Chidera Anushiem Essay Contest, first in an annual series in commemoration of the International Day of the Boy-child, has reached a significant milestone with the announcement of its shortlist.

This year’s contest, sponsored by Mr. Chidera Anushiem and Writinova, called on male undergraduate students across Nigerian universities to comment on the role of boy-child advocacy in building a balanced future, recorded 52 entries.

After a week of grading by a 4-person team, Boys Without Borders Nigeria is pleased to announce eight students from three universities as the shortlisted entrants for the contest, as revealed by Olamilekan Mashika, the Director of Campus Networks and Volunteer Engagement

“In picking the winners, we looked at the structure of the essays, how the entrants analysed the key issues they raised, how they presented their issues and recommendations, the use of logic, use of facts and evidence to back up their claims, the mechanical accuracy, and the overall content.

The top three winners will receive from the ₦120,000 prize fund while the other 5 finalists will receive consolatory prizes,” Olamilekan said.

Shortlisted entrants, in no particular order of importance, are:
