Meet Our Board of Directors
John 'Dare Okafor
Managing Director
Hi! I'm John Dare Okafor. Friends call me JD. I graduated with a degree in Counseling and Human Development Studies. As an undergrad, I co-founded Boys Without Borders NG, a fast-growing organization focused on helping boys in Nigeria. We're building something truly special - a community of advocates for boys, and I believe our impact will be huge in the coming years. My superpower? Spending time alone. You'll often find me on long hikes, listening to Passenger, contemplating life's big questions.
Solomon Idowu
Managing Director
Hello! My name is Solomon Idowu, The Solomon Idowu. I'm a young chap excited by the prospect of building towards goals, whatever they might be, in whatever form. Boys Without Borders is one of the things I'm involved in building and I thoroughly enjoy the process of working on a solution so niche, but yet so impactful with so many awesome people. My superpower? Ideating while lying down, looking at my ceiling, and probably overworking myself too. I love exploring the vast canvas that is music, feasting on design feeds, engaging in political and social commentary and enjoying the best form of entertainment ever developed, anime.
Theophilus Femi Alawonde
Director of Media and Communication
I’m Theophilus Femi Alawonde in several corporate settings. Theo to some; Olu to others. I’m a marketing strategist and I mostly work with disruptive and ambitious early-stage startups. I like to call Boys Without Borders one of the passion projects I am involved in and enjoy the role of working alongside the amazing people in my directorate to create content for impact and reach. My superpower is knowing how to be both serious and unserious. I seem to be getting worse at describing my hobbies. Say, listening to music, finding out what makes people tick, running social experiments, and playing around with reels and TikTok videos. And, John can’t beat me to the Passenger love thing. If he thinks he can, he should pull out his Spotify Wrapped cards, and let’s compare!
Ìbùkúnolúwa Dàda
Director of Sponsorship and Partnerships
Ìbùkúnolúwa Dada is a content writer, poet, and an advocate for gender equality. On days he is not targeting customers, he impersonates Cupid and Life in what has birthed his chapbook, Beauties of These Days. On other days, he is writing on Medium under the influence of music.
Deborah Ajayi
Director of Finance
¡Hola! My name is Ajayi Deborah, and a number of people immediately say "Debby" whenever I introduce myself. It's annoying enough that I have a popular name, I have to battle with a popular nickname too? I joined Boys Without Borders in 2020 to have an understanding of what boy child advocacy is. I'm really glad I did, I'm happy with the things that we've done, and I look forward to our future accomplishments. When I'm not volunteering or doing finance-related things for Boys Without Borders, I'm either reading a book, seeing a movie, or trying to escape Duolingo's wrath. I write sometimes.
Olamilekan Mashika
Director of Volunteer Engagement and Campus Networks
My name is Olamilekan Mashika (Ola, not Lekan). I am a writer, a researcher and an aspiring academic. I like to think that I am a philosopher too, but who am I kidding? Boys without Borders for me is a necessity in my life. Growing up in Mushin, I know and have seen first-hand the need for the education and reorientation of growing boys and with BWB, I am part of that change. Not that I like to brag, but I think I know how to get people to like me when delegating work. That is why my guys at Campus Networks and Volunteer Engagement love me, and I equally love them. People like to say I am too old fashioned because of my lifestyle choices (ranging from clothes, music taste, movie taste and even in my conversations). For example, I don't wear denim jeans), I hate shoes and I quite frankly am not a fan of pop. To wrap up, I'd say everyone should give their life to philosophy.
